Assistant Professor Dr. J. Steinberg is a leading specialist in the field of research, diagnostic and treatment of keratoconus. His surgical experience is focused on corneal and refractive surgery.
Dr. Steinberg received his degree in Medicine as well as his doctor degree from the University Charité-Berlin before he started his Residency Program in Ophthalmology at the Medical University Hamburg. He completed his Residency by passing the German and European examinations in 2014.
Next to his clinical and scientific residency, Dr. Johannes Steinberg was the medical head for the international research projects of the department of ophthalmology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. In 2014, he ended his clinical career at the University Hospital to establish the `zentrumsehstärke`, an ophthalmology practice and research center. At the zentrumsehstärke, his surgical spectrum covers regular and complex cataract-surgeries (monofocal, multifocal, toric) and all state of the art surgical procedures of the cornea including CISIS, crosslinking and Femto-Laser procedures.
His scientific work includes more then 30 publications in peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Journal Citation Report, and covers topics of Corneal, Cataract and Refractive surgery.
Current scientific focus:
In 2014, Dr. J. Steinberg was honored with the ‘Dr.-Karl-Robert-Brauns-Award of ophthalmolgy’ for his study: „Anterior and posterior corneal changes after crosslinking for keratoconus“. After passing his habilitation treatise “Early detection, classification and treatment of keratoconus” in 2014, Dr. Steinberg became an associate professor and lecturing at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf since June 2016.
