Assistant Professor Dr. Stephan J. Linke is a leading expert in the field of corneal dis-eases and its treatment including keratoconus.
He achieved the degree in Medicine from the prestigious Ruprecht-Karls Universität in Heidel-berg (Germany) after successfully absolving residencies in Inselspital in Bern (Switzerland), and the renown Moorfields Eye Hospital (London). He completed his Residency Program of Oph-thalmology in the modern Department of Ophthalmology at the University Medical Center Ham-burg-Eppendorf (Germany). Dr. Linke was the lead surgeon of the eye clinic and the head of the cornea- and refractive unit until the foundation of zentrumsehstärke on the University campus in 2014.
Currently he is consultant and senior scientist at the Cornea, Cataract and External Disease Unit of University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf. He visits continuously other top international corneal centers to exchange scientific expertise and improve surgical skills. The focus of his clini-cal activity is the diagnostic and surgical treatment of anterior segment disease including keratoconus.
His surgical spectrum covers regular and complex cataract-surgeries (monofocal, multifocal, toric) and all state of the art surgical procedures of the cornea (Myoring implantation, cross-linking, amniotic membrane transplantation, lamellar and penetrating keratoplasty and laser refractive surgery - FemtoLaser).
His scientific work includes more than 60 international peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Journal Citation Report, and focuses mainly on corneal disease, therapeutic/ refractive laser sur-gery, intraoperative aberrometry and keratoconus. His Research and scientific projects have been repeatedly supported by the German Ophthalmological Society. In 2013 Dr. Linke was ho-noured with the Hans-Sautter-Reward and in 2016 he received the Dr.-Karl-Robert-Brauns-Prize for Ophthalmology for his contribution to the „Picosecond Infrared Laser System (=PIRL)“ for corneal transplantation.
